THE STORY OF KOOLY
Where did the idea come from?
The idea came after Kaine started taking an old iPad to work to keep himself busy on his FIFO swings and started drawing to pass the time. Holly (who can’t sit still and always needs a million projects to work on) saw that Kaine was hiding his secret drawing talents and got thinking! We both LOVE supporting small Australian Brands, so why not become one?
About Kaine
Kaine is a Heavy Diesel Mechanic who grew up in Tamworth, NSW (The country music capital of Aus!). Kaine’s family stem from Cobar (Outback NSW) and Molong (Central West NSW), so country runs deep in his veins. After 27 years in Tamworth, Kaine said goodbye to the country and headed to Newcastle for a coastal change (and to start working in mining). That’s where he met Holly!
About Holly
Holly is an Occupational Therapist who grew up on the outskirts of Sydney. Travelling was the norm for Holly’s family, and having 2 school teachers for parents, meant packing the canvas tent every school holidays and camping somewhere new. Holly moved out of home at 20 and headed down to a small costal town called Gerringong for a few years before heading north to Newcastle. Holly’s work took her out to Lightning Ridge (Outback NSW) for 12 months before we both decided to pack everything into our 07’ Prado and cross the Nullarbor for a stint in Perth.
FIFO in Perth
After Kaine started working FIFO from Perth, we both started looking for ways to pass the time. Nights can be long when apart (and on the other side of the country from our families), so Kooly came at the perfect time. It has given us both the perfect creative challenge. The best part so far? Getting to work on it together.
Our love of Australia
We have been lucky enough to travel the world, but get no greater joy than travelling our own backyard. We’ve driven to the Tip of Aus, up the Oodnadatta track, across the Nullarbor and everywhere in between. No matter where we go, we are still blown away by the sheer greatness of the landscapes we are surrounded by. Everything Kooly is, is inspired by Australia.
What a blast
This is so much more than just a clothing label for us. FIFO is tough, and it has given us both a positive outlet to put our energy into while separated for weeks at a time. Whether we sell just one collection, or 100 collections, the journey to get here has been an absolute blast and we can’t thank you enough for being here and being a part of it.
